Lamaceiros

A scenic locality in Santo da Serra with views over northern parishes, where several levadas share an aqueduct before dividing.

Map: Madeira (9)

A very picturesque locality (sítio) in the parish (freguesia) of Santo da Serra (‘the saint of the uplands’), offering lovely views over the parishes of Porto da Cruz, Faial and Santana. It lies three kilometres from the parish church of Santo da Serra. As far as this locality the waters of the levadas (irrigation channels) of Furado (‘pierced’), Juncal (‘rush bed’), Nova do Furado (or the Shareholders’ Levada) and Serra do Faial (‘uplands of Faial’) flow in a shared aqueduct. There the first passes into its own channel and the second goes on to the parish of Porto da Cruz. The waters of the other two levadas continue together as far as the locality of Lombo da Raiz (see that entry).
