Our Lady of Faith (chapels)
Original title: Nossa Senhora da Fé (Capelas de)
Two chapels dedicated to Our Lady of Faith, one founded in São Martinho in 1668 and another at Porto da Cruz in the 1820s, the latter now vanished.
In the parish (freguesia) of São Martinho (‘St Martin’) stood a chapel with this dedication, founded by Manuel Gonçalves Lisboa in 1668. It gave its name to the locality (sítio) where it was built.
At the locality of Mirante da Terra do Baptista (‘lookout of Baptista’s land’), in the parish of Porto da Cruz (‘harbour of the cross’), the holder of the entail (morgado) Diogo Dias de Ornelas e Vasconcellos founded a chapel with the same dedication. The deed of endowment is dated 25 November 1825, and the inspection for the licence to hold services in it took place on 11 August 1826. It no longer exists.
