Oudinot (street)
Original title: Oudinot (Rua do)
Funchal street named in honour of Brigadier Oudinot, linking the Praça dos Lavradores to the Largo de São João.
This name is a tribute paid by the Council of Funchal to Brigadier Oudinot, who through his services to Madeira fully earned the gratitude of the island’s inhabitants.
Rua do Oudinot links the Praça dos Lavradores with the small square of São João. A little below it there once stood a bridge over the Ribeira de João Gomes, which we suppose collapsed or was demolished towards the end of the second quarter of the 19th century. The street gives access to the Largo dos Lavradores, where the new Market was built.
