Oregano (Origanum virens)

Oregano (Origanum virens), a common native Madeiran labiate used in cooking as a substitute for marjoram.
A native labiate, very common in Madeira. It has a pleasant smell and taste, and flowers gathered in spikes, with pale green bracts larger than the calyces. It is used in cooking and can replace marjoram (see that entry).
