Marjoram (Majorana hortensis)
Original title: Mangerona (Majorana hortensis)
Marjoram (Majorana hortensis), an aromatic labiate grown in some Madeiran kitchen gardens as a seasoning; a related form, M. paniculata, also occurs.
An aromatic labiate, grown in some Madeiran kitchen gardens solely as a seasoning for cooking. It is native to North America and Central Asia, and is also known by the name orégãos (see that entry).
Majarona paniculata, probably a mere variety of M. Maiorca, also appears in some kitchen gardens and is easily told apart from M. hortensis by not having the lower lip of the calyx very small or absent.
