In the locality (sítio) and quinta (country estate) of Virtudes (‘virtues’), in the parish (freguesia) of São Martinho (‘St Martin’), Francisco de Vasconcelos Bettencourt built in 1661 a chantry (capela) with the dedication of Nossa Senhora das Virtudes (Our Lady of the Virtues).
