Maravilhas (street)

Describes the Rua das Maravilhas in Funchal, whose name derives from a quinta and chapel of Nossa Senhora das Maravilhas.
It runs between Rua da Cabouqueira and the beginning of the Caminho de Santo António (‘St Anthony’), ending in a small square also called Maravilhas. In this square there was, and still is, a quinta (country estate) called Quinta das Maravilhas, which takes its name from a chapel built on it and dedicated to Nossa Senhora das Maravilhas (Our Lady of Wonders) (see that entry).
