Original title: Nossa Senhora das Maravilhas (Capela de)

Chapels of Our Lady of Wonders: one founded in 1657 at the Quinta das Maravilhas, rebuilt 1736 and now gone, and others at Madalena do Mar and São Pedro.

Map: Madeira (6)

At the quinta (country estate) of Maravilhas, in the square of the same name, Diogo Bettencourt Correia and his wife, Dona Catarina da Silva, founded a chapel with this dedication in 1657, with a deed of endowment dated 18 August of the same year. It was rebuilt in 1736 by Dona Mariana da Silva and was inspected so that Mass could be celebrated in it on 20 November of that year. It no longer exists.

A chapel with the same dedication once stood in the locality (sítio) of Passo (‘pass’) in the parish (freguesia) of Madalena do Mar (‘Magdalene by the sea’).

Gaspar Betencourt de Andrade founded another in 1658 in the parish of São Pedro.
