D. Mariana Xavier da Silva was a mainland Portuguese writer who lived in Madeira from 1872 to 1881 and published 'Na Madeira – Offerendas' in 1884.
This lady, a native of mainland Portugal, lived on this island for many years. In 1884 she published in Lisbon a book of pieces in prose and verse entitled Na Madeira–Offerendas, which contains various tales and narratives, some of them concerning this island, that make very interesting and pleasant reading. Judging by the dates of some of the articles and poems in this volume, Dona Mariana Xavier da Silva lived on this island during the years from 1872 to 1881.
