Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy founded in 1650 at Florenças, Arco da Calheta.
In 1650 Captain Gaspar Homem de El-Rei and his wife, Dona Isabel Florença, founded a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Ransom (Nossa Senhora das Mercês) in the parish (freguesia) of Arco da Calheta (‘arc of Calheta’); it stood in the locality (sítio) called Florenças.
