Chard, a subspecies of Beta vulgaris cultivated and semi-wild in Madeira, whose leaves are used in purées and herb broth.

A subspecies of Beta vulgaris, cultivated and growing semi-wild in Madeira. It is native to Europe and has large leaves and greenish flowers gathered in long spikes. The leaves of this member of the Chenopodiaceae are used for purées and go into herb broth.
