A fort on the island of Porto Santo built on the orders of the Marquis of Pombal and dedicated to Saint Joseph in honour of the king's name. It was sold at auction in 1923 and now belongs to the Porto Santo water company.

The fort of St Joseph on the island of Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’) was built on the orders of the Marquis of Pombal and, in honour of the king’s name, was given that saint as its patron saint. It now belongs to the Águas do Porto Santo company, having been sold at auction for 52,250.00 escudos (the Portuguese currency from 1911: 1 escudo = 100 centavos = 1,000 réis) on 18 May 1923 (1921).
