St Lazarus (chapel)
Original title: São Lázaro (Capela de)
Notes two chapels dedicated to Saint Lazarus: a former chapel in Santa Cruz founded in the early sixteenth century, and the chapel of the old São Lázaro hospital, later the civil prison.
There was a chapel with this dedication in the parish (freguesia) of Santa Cruz (‘Holy Cross’), founded by João Afonso Escudeiro at the beginning of the 16th century (see Bemposta).
The chapel of the former St Lazarus’s Hospital (Hospital de São Lázaro), now the civil gaol, has the same dedication (1921).
