Conselheiro (street)

The full name of this street is Rua do Conselheiro José Silvestre Ribeiro. It was opened at the time when this benevolent governor was at the head of the administration of this district, and it was given his name as a tribute to the outstanding services he rendered to this archipelago. It is the street that runs along the west side of the Jardim Municipal (‘municipal garden’). A few years ago it was extended as far as Rua das Fontes (‘springs’), passing beside the ‘Teatro Manuel de Arriaga’ (‘Manuel de Arriaga Theatre’).
