In 1780 António de Carvalhal Esmeraldo Alencastre, nobleman of the Royal Household (fidalgo da Casa Real), and his wife Dona Josefa Jacinta Betencourt Correia Henriques had a chapel dedicated to São Caetano (St Cajetan) built in the locality (sítio) of Terças (‘thirds’), in the parish (freguesia) of Ponta do Sol (‘point of the sun’), on the quinta (country estate) they owned there, which bore the same name as the chapel.
