A locality (sítio) in the parish (freguesia) of Ponta do Sol (‘point of the sun’), where there is a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Livramento (Our Lady of Deliverance), after whom the place is named. It was built at the behest of Diogo Ferreira de Mesquita and his wife, Dona Isabel de Meneses, in 1656, as the seat of an entailed estate (morgadio) that they founded. They were descendants of the German fidalgo (nobleman of the lesser nobility) Adriano Spranger, who owned land in the area as a sesmaria (royal land grant to settlers on condition of cultivation).

Chronology
  • The chapel of Nossa Senhora do Livramento at Ponta do Sol was built and endowed, with an entail instituted (deed of 14 September).
