Lombada
Inhabited locality in Santa Cruz parish, noted for its early sixteenth-century chapel of São Pedro, rebuilt after the 1803 flood.
An inhabited locality (sítio) in the parish (freguesia) of Santa Cruz (‘Holy Cross’). The old chapel of St Peter there was built by João Escorcio Drumond in the early 16th century and stood on the bank of the Ribeira da Boaventura (‘Boaventura stream’). Destroyed by the great flash flood (aluvião) of 1803, it was rebuilt soon afterwards on a site less exposed to the violence of the current. It is said that in this locality Dona Maria do Rosário de Arvelos built, in 1670, a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Peña de Francia (Nossa Senhora da Penha de França), which disappeared long ago.
