A square in Funchal beside the Campo do Almirante Reis, notable for its ornamental fountain.
This is the square beside the Campo do Almirante Reis, into which Rua de Santa Maria opens. It has a public fountain of some architectural pretension, which is at present supplied with water from the Tornos (‘water turns’) but which before 1911 provided only groundwater, drawn up from the subsoil by a pump. A short distance away stood the old church of Our Lady of Calhau (Nossa Senhora do Calhau).
