The former name of the street now called Rua dos Tanoeiros. ‘From this Rua dos Mercadores,’ says Frutuoso, ‘beyond Rua Direita (‘straight street’), another street can be seen, not so long, with other shops of lesser trade, such as fruit, linen cloth and haberdashery goods brought from abroad; at the end of it there is a well, for which reason it is called Rua do Poço Novo (‘new well’)’.
