A small cove and beach landing at Lugar de Baixo, sometimes better for landing than the quays of Ponta do Sol and Ribeira Brava; Infante D. Luís landed there in 1858.
At the locality (sítio) of this name there is a small cove bordering a beach, which serves it as a landing place; landing there is sometimes preferable to landing at the Cais da Ponta do Sol (‘point of the sun’) or the Cais da Ribeira Brava (‘wild river’). It was at this landing place that Prince Luís, later King of Portugal, came ashore on 25 October 1858, because the state of the sea did not allow him to land at the quay of the town (vila) of Ponta do Sol.
