Fajã do Penedo

An inhabited locality in Boaventura, once with an 18th-century chapel of Sant'Ana and since 1919 a chapel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

An inhabited locality (sítio) in the parish (freguesia) of Boaventura (‘good fortune’). A small chapel dedicated to Sant'Ana once stood here; it was built in 1768 by the holder of the entail (morgado) António Francisco de Caires and demolished shortly after 1840. In 1919 Dona Maria dos Anjos Ribeiro had a chapel consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary built in this locality.

Chronology
  • António Francisco de Caires founded the hermitage of Sant'Ana at Fajã do Penedo, Boaventura, endowing it by deed of 20 April 1768.
  • The hermitage of Sant'Ana at Fajã do Penedo, Boaventura, was demolished shortly after 1840.
  • Maria dos Anjos Ribeiro had a chapel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary built at Fajã do Penedo, Boaventura.
