An inhabited locality (sítio) of the parish (freguesia) of Calheta (‘small cove’), comprising the town (vila) of the same name and its immediate surroundings. Here stand the building of the Municipal Council (Câmara Municipal), various municipal offices, the Igreja Paroquial (‘parish church’) and the former Misericórdia of Calheta (Casa da Misericórdia da Calheta) with its adjoining chapel (see the articles under the heading Calheta).
