Ribeira Brava (landing place and quay)

Original title: Ribeira Brava (Porto e Cais da)

Describes the landing place of Ribeira Brava, a pebble beach where embarking was difficult, and the quay built there between 1904 and 1908, linked to the town by a tunnel and a short road and served by coastal steamers.

Map: Madeira (2)

The landing place of this locality is a beach of large pebbles, where embarking and landing are none too easy, especially when the waves are running high. A quay was therefore needed, and it was built between 1904 and 1908. It lies to the east of the town (vila), to which it is linked by a tunnel and a short road, and it serves this parish (freguesia) well, as well as the surrounding villages and even some localities on the north of the island. The coastal shipping steamers call at this landing place.

Chronology
  • The Junta Geral built the quay at Ribeira Brava between 1904 and 1908.
