A village (lugar, settlement rank below a town) in the parish (freguesia) of Machico, set within the inhabited locality of Marco (‘boundary stone’). It takes its name from the chapel of Our Lady of Prayers (Nossa Senhora das Preces), founded by Canon Agostinho de Góis e Meneses in 1750 and rebuilt by António Tiago da Silva in 1884.
