An inhabited locality (sítio) in the parish (freguesia) of Santo da Serra (‘the saint of the uplands’). At this spot, known as Alcoforado, Gil de Carvalho built a small chapel in the second quarter of the 16th century, which gave its name to the locality; it is conjectured that it was dedicated to the miracle-worker St Anthony. It belongs to the municipality (concelho) of Machico.
