A small maritime disinfection station operating at the Pontinha in Funchal since 1901, funded through the Junta Geral and staffed by government-paid personnel.
A small maritime disinfection station has existed at the Pontinha (‘little point’) since 1901. The sums raised from disinfections, after deducting the cost of buying disinfectants, form revenue of the District General Council (Junta Geral), which pays the rent of the building where the station operates. The station's staff, an inspector and a guard, are paid by the Government (1921).
