Louros

Louros is an inhabited locality in the parish of São Gonçalo, Funchal, once the site of a chapel of Nossa Senhora da Incarnação built in 1656. It is home to the Viveiro dos Louros, an agricultural experimental station run by the Junta Geral do Distrito.

This locality (sítio) of the parish (freguesia) once had a small chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Incarnação (Our Lady of the Incarnation), built in 1656 by Diogo Bernardes Branco. There is an agricultural station (posto agrário), or experimental agricultural ground, known as the Viveiro dos Louros (‘laurel nursery’), which is maintained by the District General Council (Junta Geral do Distrito).
