Lombo das Adegas
Inhabited locality in Ponta do Sol parish, once sesmaria land of settler Pedro Delgado, with a Santo António oratory enlarged into a public chapel in 1853.
An inhabited locality (sítio) in the parish (freguesia) of Ponta do Sol (‘point of the sun’). Pedro Delgado, an early settler, held sesmaria (royal land grant to settlers on condition of cultivation) lands here, which were later turned into an entailed foundation (instituição vincular, a morgado or capela). There was once a small oratory here dedicated to St Anthony, probably founded by this family. In 1853 it was enlarged and converted into a public chapel, the third chapel of that dedication in the parish.
