Bicuda (Sphyraena spet)

The bicuda (Sphyraena spet), a migratory, voracious barracuda-like fish of Madeiran waters, caught at night by trolling.

A migratory fish in Madeiran waters. It is elongated and almost cylindrical in shape and can reach a little over 1 metre. It travels in shoals, is very voracious and preys chiefly on sardines, horse mackerel and in general on the fish that the fishermen of these islands call ruama (fishermen's name for small shoaling fish such as mackerel and horse mackerel). It is caught at night by the method known as trolling. Its flavour, though not very fine, is not among the most unpleasant.
