Place building Sé Funchal
Teatro Grande
Sé · Funchal
facing the São Lourenço palace, Funchal, Madeira
Large opera house in Funchal, built around 1780 facing the São Lourenço palace and reputedly the second-largest theatre in Portugal. It was demolished in 1833 under the absolutist government because it had become a venue for liberal demonstrations, and its demolition created the Largo da Restauração.
