Rua dos Murças is a Funchal street running from Rua do Sabão to Avenida Gonçalves Zarco, beside the old gaol and town hall. It is said to be named after the capes (murças) of the cathedral canons who once lived there. Part or all of it was formerly called Rua do Capitão.
