Place port/quay Sé Funchal
The Molhe da Pontinha is the breakwater of Funchal harbour, joining the islet and its fort to the shore and forming the harbour of refuge. It was built by French contractors in 1885–1889 and rebuilt after the storms of 1892. It hosted annual nautical festivals, a tide gauge and, in 1922, the landing of the aviators.
