Immaculate Conception of the Islet (chapel)
Original title: Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Ilhéu (Capela de)
Short entry on the chapel of the fortress of Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Ilhéu, ordered by royal decree in 1682 and built before 1692, when its first chaplain was appointed.
The Fort of Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Ilhéu (Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Fort of the Islet) had its own chapel, built by order of the royal decree (alvará régio) of 9 November 1682. Its first chaplain was Father José de Andrade, appointed by royal decree (alvará) of 31 July 1692. The chapel must therefore have been built between these two dates; its patron saint was Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
