The coffin of Princess Maria Amélia was embarked at the Pontinha quay and the Empress left Madeira with it for Lisbon.

Infante D. Luís arrived at Funchal in the corvette Bartolomeu Dias, the first royal visit to Madeira, landing next day at the Pontinha quay with a grand reception; he was received at the Palheiro by the Count of Carvalhal and ordered inlaid tables for King Pedro V and Queen Estefânia.

The urn of the Unknown Soldier of Africa arrived at Funchal on the Briton, lay in state at the town hall and was embarked on the cruiser República for Lisbon; General Norton de Matos joined the procession.
