Prim Garibaldi e Costa (João)
Civil servant and journalist from Porto Moniz, former municipal administrator and head of the local telegraph-post office.
He was born in the parish (freguesia) of Porto Moniz (‘Moniz’s harbour’) on 31 August 1867, the son of António Tolentino da Costa and Dona Romana Augusta de Coito e Costa. For some years he was municipal administrator (administrador do concelho, the government's representative) of the municipality (concelho) of that name, and he now holds the post of head of its telegraph and post office there. He contributed to several Funchal newspapers and was a particularly regular contributor to the Brado de Oeste, published in the town (vila) of Ponta do Sol (‘point of the sun’). As president of the Associação Recreativa Porto-Monizense, he gave a speech there that was published as a pamphlet in this city under the title Conferencia, dedicated to Councillor (conselheiro, honorary title of the royal council) José Leite Monteiro (1921).
