English captain whose ships attacked and burned Porto Santo in 1595, according to Johnson's Handbook for Madeira.
Johnson states on p. 187 of his Handbook for Madeira that in 1595 some English ships under the command of Captain Amias Preston attacked and burned Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’), even though the inhabitants had offered to pay a large sum to spare the island any harm.
