Worms

Original title: Vermes

Brief account of worms recorded in Madeira: four terrestrial species and over 240 marine species collected by Paul Langerhans.

Four terrestrial worms, says Johnson, have been recorded in Madeira, among them the earthworm. As for marine worms, more than 240 species are known, collected by Professor Paul Langerhans. This naturalist illustrated the new species well in the Zeitschrift für wissenchaftliche Zoologie (1879–1884).

The largest and most beautiful of the Madeiran marine worms is Amphinone carunculata, a species furnished with stinging bristles.
