Rock samphire (Crithmum maritimum)

Rock samphire, a coastal umbellifer common on Madeira's north coast and found elsewhere; edible in salad but little used.

A glaucous umbellifer with fleshy, 2–3-pinnatisect leaves, abundant on the north coast of Madeira. It has also been found at Ponta de São Lourenço, between Gorgulho (‘weevil’) and Praia Formosa (‘beautiful beach’), and on the island of Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’). It is eaten in salads, but is little used in the archipelago.
