Largo dos Milagres
Square in Machico where the Chapel of Senhor dos Milagres stands, destroyed by the 1803 flood and soon rebuilt.
A locality (sítio) in the town (vila) of Machico, where the chapel of the Lord of Miracles (Senhor dos Milagres) stands. It was destroyed by the great flash flood (aluvião) of 1803; it was then called the chapel of Christ (Cristo) or of the Misericórdia (Holy House of Mercy, a lay charitable brotherhood), to which it belonged at the time, and it was rebuilt shortly afterwards. See Cristo (chapel), p. 332 of vol. 1.

Chronology
- The great flood of 9 October 1803, considered Madeira's greatest calamity, devastated Funchal and other parts of the island, killing about 600 people and destroying the Calhau church, stream walls, bridges and chapels in Machico, Santa Cruz and elsewhere. It prompted Oudinot's mission and the city's spread outwards.
