Desembarcadouro

A small coastal projection west of the beach and bay of Machico, which tradition holds to be the landing place of the first discoverers or settlers of Madeira. The Elucidário suggests that a small commemorative monument (padrão) be raised there.

Map: Madeira (2)

On a small projection of the coastline, west of the beach and cove of Machico, there is a village (lugar, settlement rank below a town) that bears this name and which tradition holds to be the spot where the first discoverers or settlers of Madeira came ashore. It would be fitting to raise a small commemorative pillar (padrão) there, marking the historic event of the discovery of Madeira or the beginning of its colonisation.
