Map: Desertas (2)

The Furilhão, or Prego do Mar (‘sea nail’), is a rock 49 metres high, rising a very short distance from Ilhéu Chão (Flat Islet).

According to Madeiran tradition, this rock was once shelled by an English frigate, which had mistaken it for a suspicious vessel. English sailors know the Furilhão as Sail Rock.
