Fanal
Fanal is an upland site in the hills of Seixal and Ribeira da Janela with a crater that becomes a winter lake, rich native vegetation and fine views.
A locality (sítio) in the uplands of Seixal (‘pebble shore’) and Ribeira da Janela (‘window stream’), where there is a crater that turns into a lake in winter. Beside this crater grows luxuriant vegetation of native trees and shrubs, notably adernos and other rare species. Ferns, grasses and mosses abound throughout Fanal (‘beacon’), which is one of the places on the island most worth visiting for the beautiful views it commands.
