District Council of Agriculture

District agricultural council created in 1901 to promote farming in Madeira, active 1904–1910 and abolished in 1913.

It was created by decree of 24 December 1901, held its first session (the inaugural one) on 16 July 1904 and its last on 1 August 1910. This Council, which dealt especially with the promotion of agriculture in the Madeira region, was abolished by article 289 of the Law of 9 July 1913.

Chronology
  • A decree placed the Funchal district in the southern agronomic region and created the District Council of Agriculture.
  • The District Agricultural Council held its inaugural session.
  • The Conselho Distrital de Agricultura held its last session.
  • The agricultural law (no. 26) of 9 July 1913 created the Regional Chamber of Agriculture, abolished the District Council of Agriculture and set up agricultural and forestry sections, Funchal forming no. 25.
