Funchal-born lawyer, journalist, teacher and deputy for Madeira from 1922, president of the Associação Comercial do Funchal in 1939.
He was born in Funchal on 21 November 1892, the son of João Isidoro de Araújo Figueira and Dona Virgínia Henriques de Araújo. He completed the course at our lyceum (state secondary school) in 1909 and graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (Universidade de Coimbra) in 1914. While a student at the University he contributed extensively to various newspapers on the mainland and was one of the founders of the Imparcial, published in Coimbra. For some years he was on the editorial board of the Diário da Madeira (‘Madeira Daily’), and he has contributed to other Madeiran newspapers. He practises law and published a pamphlet entitled Acção de expropriação do Montado do Barreiro requerida pela Câmara Municipal do Funchal contra os proprietários do mesmo Montado, Funchal, 1917, 19 pp. He is a permanent teacher at the ‘António Augusto de Aguiar’ Industrial and Commercial School and has carried out various public service commissions, being at present (1939) president of the board of the Funchal Commercial Association (Associação Comercial do Funchal). He was elected deputy for Madeira in 1922 and in successive legislatures, and is a member of the present Chamber of Deputies. In 1928 he published in a volume some of the speeches he had made in Parliament, under the title Trabalhos Parlamentares.

Upland wooded and pasture tract above Funchal, rich in springs that feed several levadas and the Tornos springs used for the city's water supply. It was expropriated by the Funchal council in 1917, and the resulting lawsuit prompted pamphlets by Pedro Góis Pita and Juvenal Henriques de Araújo.
