An Azorean island that served as the Liberal base where D. Pedro's expedition assembled and from which the force occupying Porto Santo came. Nicolau Pita was banished there, João Bettencourt de Vasconcellos was executed there and Acursio Garcia Ramos was born there.

João Bettencourt de Vasconcelos was beheaded on Terceira for supporting Philip II.

The alçada of 1823 sentenced 24 people, mostly of the upper classes, including Pita to four years' exile on Terceira and a fine and Medina to eight years' exile in Angola.
