Funchal, by the Ribeira de Santa Luzia
Ponte Nova is an area of Funchal named after a bridge over the Ribeira de Santa Luzia, which gave its name to Rua da Ponte Nova. The street runs from the left bank of the ribeira to the Calçada da Incarnação and formerly extended to Rua dos Ferreiros. A sugar factory founded by Severiano Ferraz stood there.
