Porto-born banker who settled in Funchal in 1893 as Bank of Portugal agent and became partner of Reid, Castro & C.ª. He was a notable promoter of local industry and a philanthropist, co-founding the Escola de Artes e Ofícios and funding the Angústias memorial to the victims of the 1916 bombardment.
