Frogs

Original title: Rãs

Two introduced frog species occur in Madeira: Rana temporaria, brought by the Conde do Carvalhal, and the tree frog Hyla arborea.

Two species of these amphibians are known in Madeira: Rana temporaria and Hyla arborea. The first, introduced by the former Count of Carvalhal (‘oak grove’) in the first quarter of the 19th century, now lives in almost every pond on the island. The second, a small green species, lives in the trees of some gardens in Funchal; when it was introduced is not known.
