Ramos Coelho (José)
Portuguese writer who published a poem praising Madeira in 1898 and had visited Funchal in his youth to study documents.
This well-known writer, now deceased, published a pamphlet in 1898 entitled A ilha da Madeira, a poem extolling the natural beauties of this island, which is also included in his Obras Completas (Lisbon, 1910).
Ramos Coelho visited Funchal in his youth in order to study some old documents belonging to the house of the Count of Carvalhal (‘oak grove’).
