Perestrelo (Bartolomeu)
Entry on the third captain-donatary of Porto Santo, Bartolomeu Perestrelo, who killed his wife to remarry, later obtained pardon and died in the Algarve.
He was the son of the preceding and became the third donatary of Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’). He married Aldonça Delgado, daughter of Garcia Rodrigues da Câmara, whom he killed so that he could marry Dona Solanda, sister of Tristão Teixeira das Damas.
Because of this crime he lived as a fugitive (homiziado), but in the end he ‘obtained the pardon of the parties and went to clear himself in the Kingdom’. He died in the Algarve at the age of 60.
A son of this Bartolomeu Perestrelo, named Garcia Perestrelo, also killed his wife and was beheaded for it.
